15 Halloween Candies You’ll Want to Steal from Your Kids
Halloween is coming up quick! It’s the time of year that you get to watch scary movies, go through haunted houses, and binge eat all the candy your heart desires! (Well, that’s what I do.)
This got me thinking… What are the best Halloween candies? There are so many options when it comes to the best candy. You have chocolate, fruity, vintage, new, gummy, crunchy, there’s just so many options!
That’s why I’ve compiled a list of the best ones that you need to have this Halloween that will make you and your trick-or-treaters happy!
Mike And Ikes
Starting off with a classic, we have Mike And Ikes. They were first made in 1940 with the original flavors being Cherry, Lemon, Lime, Orange, and Strawberry, which they’ve kept to this day.
The great thing about Mike And Ikes is that the Original flavors are just the beginning! They now have sour (my personal favorite), Berry Blast, Tropical Typhoon, and so many more. So, when you’re looking for a classic treat this Halloween, make sure you grab the Mike And Ikes!
Snickers
What kid wouldn’t love to get a bite-size Snickers while trick-or-treating? Snickers is another candy that has been around forever. It was made in 1930, manufactured in Chicago, and sold for five cents! It was named after the family horse and became an instant classic.
The main Snickers candy bar consists of peanuts, nougat, and caramel with a chocolate coating. There are other variations, like Snickers Almond, Snickers Peanut Butter, Snickers White Chocolate, and Snickers Brownie, along with one of the greatest inventions of our time, the Snickers Ice Cream Bar.
However, it wasn’t until 1968 that the Bite Size Snickers was created. There’s just something about a bite-sized chocolate candy that I think makes it taste better. It feels like you’re getting more flavor in a little piece of candy than you do in a full-sized bar.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups/Reese’s Pieces
I couldn’t just do Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups without mentioning Reese’s Pieces. In my mind, they are equally incredible. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Reese’s Pieces are milk chocolate outside with peanut butter inside. Simple and delicious. They were first made in 1928 and have been going strong ever since.
The fun thing about these is the different shapes they come in. For Halloween, they have pumpkin shaped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Christmas they have Christmas tree-shaped ones and even a football for football season. I personally like the shaped ones better than the original cups because the shaped ones have a smooth chocolate coating while the cups have a rigidness that I feel doesn’t go down as smoothly.
Starbursts
Moving on to another fruity candy, we have Starbursts. These colorful and flavorful little squares are a great Halloween treat because you can hand them out by the fist full and still have plenty left over.
It was first created in 1959 with the original flavors being strawberry, lemon, orange, and lime. They now have a plethora of varieties, like ropes, candy corn, popsicles, gum, candy canes, jelly beans, fruit roll-ups, energy drinks, and even lip gloss! These little squares are sure to bring any trick-or-treater joy and, if you buy one of the giant bags, you lots of joy for months to come.
Abba-Zaba
This is a bit of a throwback and might be hard to get your hands on, but Abba-Zabas are a Halloween staple in my house. It’s a chewy taffy outside with a peanut butter center, which might sound like it wouldn’t work but it does!
They were invented in 1922 but really grew in popularity in the 1990s. Since the 90s, they have not been as popular, but they can still be found in most stores and are even sold in bite-sized packages that are perfect for Halloween. Be careful though! They will rip your fillings and teeth out.
100 Grand
If you’re looking for a candy that tastes like $100,000, try a 100 Grand bar. It was made in 1964 and consists of chocolate, caramel, and crisped rice, my favorite combination of ingredients. They have something similar to it in France (where I live) called a Lion Bar and I could eat them all day.
They come in full bars or fun-size and were created in 1964 by Nestlé. It’s since been sold to Ferrara Candy Company, which makes products like Nutella, Kinder, and the ever-popular Ferrero Rocher.
Tootsie Pops/Tootsie Rolls
We’ve all seen the ads, “how many licks to does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?” Well the results are in and it takes an average of 253 licks to get to that delicious Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop. The original flavors that came out in 1931 were Chocolate, Cherry, Orange, Grape, and Raspberry.
However, the Tootsie Roll itself came out in 1896 in the original chocolate flavor, making this the oldest candy on the list. They also made the Tootsie Fruit Chews in flavors like cherry, orange, vanilla, lemon, and lime.
The fruity outside of the Tootsie Pop with the chocolate center seems like it wouldn’t mix well, but it does! My personal favorite flavors are the chocolate and the grape. They now have flavors like Wild Apple Berry, Wild Black Berry, Wild Blue Berry, Wild Cherry Berry, and Wild Mango Berry, but the original flavors are where it’s at!
Butterfingers
This is another candy that I feel like has kind of gone out of style in the past decade. It seemed like they were all the rage in the early 2000s but have kind of lost their appeal. They were made in 1923 and consist of a crisp peanut butter core covered in chocolate. At one point they had bars and cups but have since removed the cups.
They have bite-size Butterfingers as well and are also made by the Ferrara Candy Company, so you know they’ll be good.
Red Vines/Twizzlers
Now, I know that these are two completely different candies, but for the sake of the list, they are both vines of fruit-flavored candy and are delicious in their own ways. Red Vines have more of a gritty taste to them while Twizzlers have more of a plastic taste. Red Vines are my personal favorite because they come in a literal bucket option, while Twizzlers just come in a bag.
Red Vines are not as popular during Halloween because they don’t have an individual package option while Twizzlers do have a single serving option. Both candies are considered licorice and come in many flavors, shapes, and sizes, but you’ll have to try both of them for yourself to determine which is your favorite.
Nerds
Nerds are all the rage right now. Not the original little pebbles that you would shovel in your mouth as a kid, but the Nerds Gummy Clusters. Kids are literally addicted to these and will eat entire family size bags of them at a time. They do have individual packaged Nerds Gummy Clusters that you can hand out at Halloween, which will make your house the most popular on the block!
Nerds were invented back in 1983 by Willy Wonka Candy Factory, which is owned and operated by Nestlé. The original flavors were Grape and Strawbery, followed by Watermelon and Cherry. They also have Big Crunchy Chewy Nerds, Nerds Rope, and the popular Gummy Clusters.
Milk Duds
Milk Duds were invented back in 1928 and consist of just two things. Chocolate and caramel. They come in little bite-size pieces like an M&M but are a million times better. They don’t have a shell covering the chocolate meaning you won’t have to bite down into paint flavoring before you get to the chocolate (can you tell I’m not a fan of M&M’s?).
They go great with popcorn, which makes them the ultimate scary movie snack. They also come in little individually wrapped boxes so you can hand them out at Halloween.
Sour Patch Kids
With so many different flavors and varieties, these had to go on the list. They come in about a million different flavors, but the original Sour Patch Kids are in Lime, Lemon, Orange, and Red Raspberry. They now have Tropical, Watermelon, Blue Raspberry, Strawberry, grape, Peach, Apple, Lemonade, and so many more.
They were originally invented in the 1970s, so this is also a newer candy, that combines sweet and sour together. They also come in single serving sizes for Halloween as well as family sized ziplock bags that will last you all Spooky Season.
Airheads
Airheads are also a newer candy and not vintage like some of the ones on this list. They were invented in 1985, which makes them the newest candy on the list. They were originally just sold as airheads and came in a red wrapper and had no flavor information or anything. Once those started doing well, they introduced flavors and man, do they have a lot of flavors.
Their most popular are Cherry, Blue Raspberry, Watermelon, Green Apple, Strawberry, White Mystery (the best flavor), Orange, Grape, and Lemon. They come in full sized bars as well as smaller individually wrapped Mini Bars. However, they didn’t stop here. They have Airheads Bites, Airhead Soft Filled Bites, Airheads ice cream, Airhead Extremes, gummies, ropes, gum, you name it, they have it!
Milky way Bars
I love Milky Way Bars, but they are so rich, that I can’t eat the whole thing. That’s why I love the trick or treat size version of these candy.
Milky Way candy bars are a classic Halloween treat that never goes out of style. With their irresistible combination of creamy nougat, rich caramel, and smooth milk chocolate, they offer the perfect balance of sweetness and texture that appeals to candy lovers of all ages.
Skittles
Last but certainly not least, we have Skittles, one of the greatest candies ever invented. Skittles eaten with Goldfish cheddar crackers might be the greatest snack on planet earth (you got to try it). The original flavors of Skittles are orange, lemon, lime, grape, and strawberry. They were invented in 1971 by Jack Candies, which was the British distributor for Mars, Incorporated. In 2013, Lime was replaced with Green Apple, which was obviously a terrible mistake, but they still taste good.
You can buy Skittles in any size imaginable, from little individually wrapped packets to multi pound bags. Sour Skittles are also a favorite of a lot of people and man, are they sour! You can’t go wrong with Skittles no matter what flavor or kind you buy.
