Top 10 Places To Get Food In Gettysburg

Gettysburg, renowned for its rich history, boasts a vibrant culinary scene. From historic taverns serving up classic American fare to modern eateries offering innovative twists, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Here’s a dive into ten of the best restaurants the town has to offer.

A Gettysburg institution, this historic tavern (and the oldest structure in Gettysburg!) offers a blend of colonial charm and modern culinary excellence with a gorgeous, homey vibe. Its menu features classic American dishes with a gourmet twist, and the ambiance is simply enchanting. This one’s a personal favorite of mine.

For a truly luxurious dining experience, Mansion House 1757 is THE spot to visit. Nestled in a historic stone building, and only seven miles from the city proper, this restaurant offers fine dining at its finest with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients and a farm-to-table menu.

The Smokehouse Restaurant at Antrim 1844

This upscale eatery features a menu centered around smoked meats and barbecue, elevating these classic flavors to new heights. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it perfect for special occasions, especially its six-course prix fixe dinners. If you’re a wine aficionado, you’ll have no problem choosing from its list of 15,000 bottles. Sure, you’ll have to drive 13 miles to get there, but it’s worth it.

Appalachian Brewing Company

Founded in 1997, this popular spot combines great beer with delicious pub food. Its burgers, wings, and pretzels are perfect for sharing with friends, while their craft brews offer a delicious accompaniment. If you’re not sure what to order, the Cheddar Ale Soup and anything of the appetizer menu is a good bet.

Gettysburg Eddie’s

A classic American diner with a sports bar vibe, Gettysburg Eddie’s offers hearty comfort food at decently affordable. Its burgers, sandwiches, and milkshakes are local favorites. Also offering homemade soups and sandwiches, the laidback atmosphere is a fun way to relax and dine.

Hunt’s Battlefield Fries & Cafe

This casual spot is all about the fries, and they don’t disappoint. With a variety of toppings and dipping sauces, there’s a new fry combination to test drive with each visit. It also offers a solid selection of sandwiches and salads, all made to order.

Located in a historic building from 1810, its swanky restaurant, Meade and Lee, offers a cozy atmosphere and a menu featuring traditional American fare. The Crab Cakes are particularly memorable, and the tavern’s extensive whiskey selection is a draw for spirits enthusiasts. If you want to try something new, go for the famous Goober Pea, aka peanut, Soup.

The Gettysburger Company

This restaurant offers a modern take on classic American comfort food, with a focus on fresh, local ingredients. While hand-formed burgers are the forte (hence the name), its sandwiches and salads are delicious as well, and the outdoor seating area is perfect for enjoying the pretty Gettysburg weather.

La Bella Italia

If you’re craving a taste of Italy,  La Bella Italia offers authentic Italian cuisine, from classic pasta dishes to thin crust-style pizzas. The cozy atmosphere, affordable prices, and friendly service make it a popular spot for both locals and visitors.

This modern restaurant in the Hotel Gettysburg offers a global-inspired menu with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. Their creative dishes are beautifully presented, and their cocktail menu is impressive. I, personally, love going there for breakfast and brunch – there’s a burger of the week that’s always a fun choice if you’re a carnivore.
